Dynamic road space allocation is gaining attention in transportation planning as cities face space constraints, population growth, and demand for sustainable designs. Many cities aim to reduce car dependency gradually, but this shift could impact vulnerable groups like the elderly who rely on familiar modes of transport. This thesis explores the equity implications of dynamic roads, focusing on elder accessibility using Amartya Sen’s capabilities approach. A survey in Buitenveldert, near a proposed dynamic road site in Amsterdam, reveals a mismatch between the population’s capabilities and the technology required for dynamic roads, making it an inequitable solution. Recommendations for equitable implementation are provided.
